Cone Beam
Scanning
In many cases, our prosthodontists will need to gather as much information about not only your smile but also the surrounding tissues and structures in order to find just the right treatment for your smile. In order to do this, our office uses cone beam scanning. We invite you to call Restorative Dentistry Group at 720-784-8984 to learn how our doctors and team can use this technology to deliver effective care.

3D Imaging for Precise Treatment Planning
CBCT, or cone beam computed tomography, produces detailed three-dimensional images of your teeth, jawbone, nerves and sinuses in a single quick scan. Unlike traditional two-dimensional X-rays, these 3D images give our prosthodontists a comprehensive view of your oral anatomy, allowing them to identify conditions that might otherwise go undetected.
This technology is especially valuable for planning dental implant placement, evaluating jawbone density and diagnosing complex cases. The scan takes less than 30 seconds, requires no special preparation and uses significantly less radiation than a traditional medical CT scan.
Benefits of CBCT / Cone Beam Scanning
3D Visualization
See your teeth, jawbone, nerves, and sinuses in detailed three-dimensional images.
Precise Implant Planning
CBCT scans allow us to plan exact implant placement for optimal results.
Low Radiation
Cone beam scans use significantly less radiation than traditional medical CT scans.
Quick & Comfortable
The scan takes less than 30 seconds and requires no special preparation.
The CBCT Scanning Process
Positioning
You stand or sit comfortably while the machine is positioned around your head.
Scanning
The scanner rotates once around your head in about 20-30 seconds, capturing hundreds of images.
3D Reconstruction
Software compiles the images into a detailed 3D model of your dental and facial anatomy.
Analysis & Planning
Your prosthodontist reviews the 3D images to diagnose conditions and plan treatment with precision.
Frequently Asked Questions about CBCT / Cone Beam Scanning
Yes. CBCT scans use a fraction of the radiation of a medical CT scan. The brief exposure is considered very safe for dental imaging.
CBCT is commonly used for implant planning, complex extractions, evaluation of jaw disorders, and assessment of bone structure before major procedures.
The actual scan takes approximately 20-30 seconds. The entire appointment, including positioning and review, typically takes about 10-15 minutes.
